EdF ordered to halt work on EPR reactor

28.05.2008 Lauri Myllyvirta

A week ago, the French authorities had enough of the constant violations of safety requirements that seem to be the norm when building new nuclear plants and demanded immediate halt to construction in Flamanville.

French EdF is building the same Areva EPR reactor model in France that Areva is building in Olkiluoto. Also the main culprit, Bouygues, is the same in Olkiluoto and Flamanville. A couple of weeks earlier a report by Finnish authorities revealed safety violations in Olkiluoto with close resemblance to those that lead to cessation of work in Flamanville.

French authorities have taken the course of action that Greenpeace has been calling for in Olkiluoto, where violations of quality requirements have gone on for years.
